We use only full gauge high quality acrylics in the construction of our aquariums. They are all produced from either Polycast, Plexiglas, or (if larger) Reynolds brand acrylic. These brands of acrylics are widely recognized by reputable aquarium manufacturers and the plastics industry as the highest quality acrylics available. No off-brand imported acrylics allowed. Insist that your investment is produced from a quality product as no other will perform as well in the long run.

Decide upon the overall size of your plexiglass tank. You will need to know the exact dimensions to correctly order your pre-cut plexiglass pieces and the amount of acrylic glue and aquarium silicone. If your desired tank size is 13- to 19-inches tall, you must use 3/8-inch thick plexiglass. If your tank is larger than the above mentioned size, use a ½-inch thick plexiglass.mrg02d.. DONT use plexiglass for any baffles in your sump, or wherever your putting it. If plexiglass is exposed to saltwater long-term, it will turn a yellowish color, become very brittle, and will expand. When it expands.. if it's right up against your aquarium, it could shatter or crack the aquarium. You need to use material such as Acrylite, or regular standard Acrylic. As far as the waterjet, my understanding and a lot things I have read, claim waterjet cutting is the preferred method of cutting plexiglass. The reason no one on the aquarium forum's use that method is due to cost. I could be wrong but at least thats what at least a handful or so sites have mentioned. I attempted to use a router on some 1" scraps and did not have nearly the same smoothness I did with the waterjet cutting. I know the router with same bit and used it on 1/2" and 5/8" stuff and it was perfect....
