Some foods are designed with floating, sinking, and slowly sinking particles to provide for fish that feed at different levels of the tank. These foods are available in a range of sizes from tiny pellets for growing fry up to hefty sticks for large predatory fish.
Pond Fish & Koi Foods & Nutrition: TetraPond Variety Blend Sticks
I feed to my fish 4 or more times a week; they are great for conditioning fish (especially Corydoras) for breeding. They are very high in protein (over 50%), have adequate fiber (8%) to help prevent constipation. This brand irradiates the worms during processing killing any bacteria and parasites. Tubifex worms are sometimes called 'sewer worms' since that is one of the habitats they inhabit in the wild. Although tubifex worms we buy as fish food from reputable manufacturers are usually 'cultured', irradiation is still a good idea for piece of mind. The worm cubes are light enough to float so most of the time they are squished against the glass of the tank unless you try something else.

I have maintained aquariums since the 1970s and a pond since the early 1990s. Tetra foods have always been excellent. My goldfish love pond stix,, koi vibrance and Spring & Fall diet. This blend combines all three. I use it exclusively during the summer months and Spring & Fall food at the beginning and end of the season. The fish love it, grow fast, reproduceconstantly, and it does not make a mess or cloud water. There are more expensive foods, and many are great foods, but in my mind not better than this one!As a society, our relationship with food is in constant flux. Sometimes we value efficiency in the name of feeding as many people as possible. Other times we value quality ingredients in the name of nurturing the body or soul. When the modern fish stick was invented in the 1950s, it was definitely for efficiency. But rather than doing it in the name of feeding as many people as possible it was all sold as being the wave of “the future.”
