The method I prefer is to introduced the male betta fish into the breeding tank first. Next I use a separator or plastic holding container to house the female betta.
Fish Girl Writes: Divided Betta Tanks
Your 40-gallon is a great size for 2-3 goldfish, but goldfish and Betta really are not compatible in the same tank. They have different requirements, and should be kept separately.
Feb 22, 2013 - The idea is to separate the bettas by a solid divider
The Betta Trio is 8.4 gallons, and has been constructed with three compartments. They are conveniently split by built-in, vented separators to ensure proper water flow and filtration. This feature allows you to house three different bettas or other small fish, and create multiple scenes in one aquarium.
How to Make Your Own Tank Divider - Rate My Fish Tank
Can I just put a separator in my 6-gl tank and have 1 betta on one side and 3 goldfish on the other side?! Oh, I also have a couple shrimps and was just about to get a pleco - I am starting to see algae puffs on the glass. I am changing 1/2 water once a week, I thought that should be enough. I cannot add any chemicals that would hurt my 2 plants either...If you decide to divide a tank, it must provide the proper ecosystem for each betta fish. What does that mean? A ten gallon tank should be divided into two separate five gallon sections, a twenty gallon should be divided into four ecosystems, and so on. The photo above is a great example of a divided ten gallon tank . While this method allows for housing many betta fish with less footprint, we do not support any tanks or sections that restrict the recommended size for a healthy betta fish.Betta fish are called the Siamese Fighting Fish because of its behavior towards other males of the same species. You cannot keep two or more males in the same tank. If more than one male fish are placed in the same tank, they will fight until only one of them remains. They will flare out their gill covers and erect their fins showing the other fish their fighting posture. This behavior is also why they are kept separated in small containers at the store. After that, it was about 5 years before I tried again. My girlfriend and I were shopping when we found 3 (yes THREE) betta fish. We couldn't decide which one we liked best, so we bought all of them, and housed each one in a separate glass vase.
